PATIENCE AND HARD WORK is the first print in my series of Virtues of Belgians.
This Amish pair of Belgians is accomplishing one of the less demanding tasks of pulling a wagon through
the field as the farmer and family members walk behind, picking ears of corn and tossing them into the
wagon. While the horses are free to sample the stalks and an occasional whole ear as they wait at each
stop, their own ears are turned back as they listen for the next command to move on. At the end of the
day's work, children often enjoy a ride up high on these gentle giants as they head back home to the barn.
